After entering this brand new town her dad informed her she would be going to a boarding school. Even though it was a high school, Scarlett would spend all her time there as if it was a college. The concept was relatively new to her, and she was scared to get out of the car. Finding the courage in her dad’s supportive smile, she placed one tanned palm on the door handle and opened it quickly before she could change her mind. She walked up to the main entrance and heard behind her the engine of her father’s car roaring as he turned around to go the other way to the ship yard.
Scarlett let out a large sigh while, placing her suitcases down at the main entrance of arcane. She took a moment just to stare at the gigantic building towering over her. “Have you ever seen anything like it?” she asked her guardian who was a small Russian tortoise with deep black eyes. He shook his head no, in reply but was otherwise quiet. This was normal for Tarquin who preferred to observe before making assumptions about a place.
Hopefully Scarlett would be able to make a new beginning at this school. “I guess we should go in, huh?” Scarlett said, feeling anxious about starting a whole new life. Groaning, she picked up her heavy suitcases and started climbing the steps to this school that looked more like a palace. There were so many steps assaulting her, she felt like she’d die before she even reached the doors. “Ugh I’m out of shape.” She commented in disgust, stairs really shouldn’t be this hard to climb.
Finally the big black doors of the entrance were in view. Time to take another breather! Scarlett thought, doubling over she placed her hands on her knees and looked down on her feet. Inhaling deep breaths she hoped no one noticed the chubby kid tired, at the top of the stairs. When she looked up, she was finally ready to open the doors. Creeeeeek the giant doors opened slowly as she pushed on the handle. She was accosted by a view of tons of students milling about, walking and talking they’re guardians close behind. The school was so big, and full she wasn’t sure she’d be able to find where she needed to go without a map. Not knowing what else to do Scarlett decided to walk down the large hall and see if she could find a directory for this place.
She picked up Tarquin while she walked to make sure no one stepped on him, since people didn’t often look where they were walking, and he was little. The students seemed so busy it was like she was invisible. Thankfully she didn’t really have that power and knew she was able to be seen, just wasn’t making a scene so she must fit in rather normally. It was so much better than her middle school, everyone gawking at her large body and making jokes about how short she was. These people were to busy, maybe no one even heard the doors open or stopped to look and see who walked in.
Unfortunately a directory wasn’t around. Great! Now what do I do? She thought what a beautiful way to start out her first day of school. Being lost always made her anxious especially, in new places with people she didn’t know.
“Calm down.” Tarquin said to her in a firm manner, “Your dad wouldn’t of sent you here if he didn’t think you could handle yourself. Now the first thing to do would logically be to ask for help, yes?” he looked up at her.
Scarlett began to look squeamish. “Ask someone?! They’re complete strangers! No one has even looked at me!”
“Maybe you should look out for a friendly face, and talk to them instead of waiting to be noticed. This is your new life. Be proactive!”
“ugh.” Scarlett responded, and began looking for a friendly face. Tarquin was usually right even when she didn’t want him to be. She noticed someone smiling at her, and decided to walk up to them and ask them where the silver wolf dorms were.
